CHAIRMAN: Klaus Becker, Qantas Airways


Klaus started his career in the Aviation sector at the Lufthansa AG in 1999. He has held positions as Sales Executive and E-Commerce Manager for eight years when he was seeking new challenges at the Emirates Group. He was responsible for Corporate Sales for four years before joining AVIAREPS Brazil in February 2012. In February 2014, Klaus joint Qantas Airways as Sales Manager for Brazil and four months later became Qantas Airways Commercial Manager for South America.

Excellent relationships and connections throughout the Brazilian and South American corporate and leisure market. He has the German and Brazilian citizenship and speaks in Portuguese, Spanish, German and English. Klaus holds a BA degree in Tourism & Marketing from the Anhembi Morumbi University in Sao Paulo and a MBA in Administration from the Brazilian Business School (BBS).








SECRETARY: Ignacio Gaueca

Ignacio is a Civil Engineer from the University of Chile and has an MBA at Catholic University of Chile. He has more than 17 years of professional experience in different roles in technical and commercial areas of various constituents’ companies’, construction and International engineering consulting primarily for Mining and Energy. He has held positions such as Client Manager and Business Development Manager, actively participating in contract negotiations EPC , EPCM and pure consulting services type.
During 2013-2014 he was director of the Association of Consulting Engineers of Chile (AIC).






TREASURER: Carlos Ruiz, Bechtel

Operations Manager at Bechtel Chile.
Civil Engineer from the Catholic University of Chile, Master in Business Administration held in Darden School of Business - University of Virginia.
With over 20 years of professional experience in different areas and international companies , mainly in the United States for the mining and energy industry, playing positions as Business Development Manager , General Manager, among others.

John Byrne, Boyden

Managing Director Boyden Chile.
Managing Partner at Boyden Santiago, and leads the board search, finance, financial services, industrial, and mining & minerals practice groups.

He began his professional career in Valparaiso with a ship/stevedoring agency. From there, he started his successful career in banking. He spent over a decade with the Bank of America N.T. in Santiago, rising from account executive, Corporate Finance Manager, Manager of Capital Markets to finally being appointed Chile Branch Manager. He was ultimately appointed Senior Country Officer for The Chase Manhattan Bank NA, Santiago. From there, he joined the Banco Sud Americano, an important local retail institution (now Scotiabank), as Executive Vice President International & Treasury Division.

During his banking years, John was directly involved in the financing of many of the world class mining operations in Chile. As a result he developed valuable, first hand insight into the industry, its suppliers, and especially of the challenges and opportunities for finding top-tier talent.

Turning his expertise into a successful entrepreneurial vocation, John then created a recruitment, selection, and search company that specialized in middle management. Now leading executive search for Boyden in Chile, John oversees the three Chilean offices (Iquique, Antofagasta, Santiago) that specialize in mining.

John was born in Lima, Peru, and holds dual Chilean/British citizenship. He was educated at The Grange School and the Military Academy in Santiago. He graduated from the Universidad Católica de Valparaíso with a degree in business administration and as a Certified Public Accountant. He subsequently received his postgraduate MBL degree from Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez.







Rene Aguilar, Antofagasta Minerals

Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability of Antofagasta Minerals S.A.

A psychologist at the University of Valparaiso, he holds a Master s Degree in Human Resources from Universidad Adolfo Ibanez and an MBA from the Pontificia Universidad Catolica. He has worked in the areas of Human Resources, Risks, Security, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability, performing a relevant part of his career at Codelco, where he became vice president. Aguilar was also the first Latin American appointed Director at the International Council of Mining and Metals (ICMM), based in London.






José Antonio Valdés, Pacific Hydro.

José Antonio Valdes ? Executive Chairman, Pacific Hydro Chile.
José Antonio is Executive Chairman of Pacific Hydro Chile. He joined the company in 2004 and led the establishment of Pacific Hydro in Chile. José Antonio has over 25 years? experience in the Chilean energy sector leading important commercial processes at companies such as Transelec and Colbún. He is currently the Chairman of the Chilean Generators Association. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil and Industrial) from the Universidad de Chile, postgraduate degrees in corporate finance and project evaluation and is a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.








Jorge Delpiano, Guerrero Olivos

Partner, leads Corporate/M&A, Banking and Finance, and Capital Markets groups. He specializes in M&A, corporate governance, banking and capital markets.

Ricardo Vasquez

Ricardo Vasquez, attorney with a degree from Universidad de Chile School of Law and a Master of Laws (LL.M) from the University of Sydney, Australia, with experience in the public and the private sectors in Chile and Australia.

He was involved in the negotiations of the Free Trade Agreement signed between Chile and Australia, worked at Selborne Chambers, Sydney as foreign attorney, and has advised several Australian companies regarding foreign investment, financing and regulatory issues and taxes.

He has broad experience in litigation & arbitration, cross-border transactions, corporate matters and securities, has been consultant for foreign governments and multinational companies and appointed by the President of the Republic of Chile in a panel of experts for foreign investment and regulatory matters.

Juan Francisco Mackenna, Socio Carey & Cia

Juan Francisco Mackenna is a member of the Natural Resources and Environment of Carey y Cia. His practice focuses on mining, water rights, industrial projects and natural resources, pharmaceutical issues, partnerships, joint ventures, contracts and real estate, and land use.

He worked at Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton, New York, USA the years 2000-2001. In 1998 he was assistant professor at the Chair of Civil Law at the Faculty of Law of the Universidad Diego Portales and is currently Assistant Professor of Mining Law at the Law Faculty of the University of Chile professor. He is a member of the Bar Association of Chile.

Mr. Mackenna studied law at the Catholic University of Chile, graduating as

lawyer in 1997. He earned a Master of Laws from Duke University, NC U.S. the year 2000.

Senior Trade Commissioner, AUSTRADE.
Shannon started her career in law, working within large Australian law firms before joining Australian non-profit organisation, The Global Foundation where she led domestic and global teams facilitating public and private sector relationships and policy development in the areas of mining, renewable energy, financial services, education, agribusiness and manufacturing. Most recently she was Director of SP Consultancy, with business interests in Australia, Brazil and the United States focusing on developing strategies in management, leadership, community engagement, communications and branding for large organisations. Shannon continues to sit on the Advisory Board of The Global Foundation.
Shannon holds a Bachelor of Law (Hons.) and Bachelor of Commerce from Deakin University and speaks Portuguese and Spanish.







Robert Fergusson, Ambassador of Australia

Australia's Ambassador-designate to the Republic of Chile, with non-resident accreditation to the Republic of Colombia, Republic of Ecuador and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. He will be based at the Australian Embassy in Santiago.

Mr Fergusson is a career officer of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. He most recently spent two and a half years as Senior Adviser to the Foreign Minister, Julie Bishop. During that time, his portfolio responsibilities covered North Asia, South-East Asia, climate change and security-related issues including terrorism and people smuggling.
Mr Fergusson's last overseas posting was to Beijing as Head of the Political Section (2009-2012). He has also served as Consul in Hong Kong (2002-2004) and Second Secretary in Jakarta (1996-1998).

Mr Fergusson has spent time working on Pacific-related strategic and trade issues in Canberra and was Director of the Papua New Guinea Section from 2012-2013.
Prior to joining the Australian Government, Mr Fergusson worked as a solicitor in the commercial law firm, Hunt and Hunt, in Sydney.
Mr Fergusson holds a Bachelor of Arts and Law from the University of Sydney and a Masters of International Law from the Australian National University. He speaks Chinese, Indonesian and Spanish.
